Hillsboro hurries past Northwest to open football season on KJFF

The Hillsboro Hawks proved they’re more of a land animal, piling up big plays in the run game to cruise to a 49-0 victory over the Northwest Lions Friday night on KJFF.

Hillsboro wasted little time getting on the scoreboard thanks to star junior running back Austin Romaine.

After forcing a turnover on their first defensive possession, the Hawks cashed in a short field.

Hillsboro came up with another stop on defense, and Romaine’s next chance to carry the football worked out pretty well too.

Romaine also caught a touchdown pass and finished with 193 yards from scrimmage on 10 touches.

Senior Tyler Watson also had a strong night for the Hawks.

Watson added 2 sacks on defense to his 75 rushing yards and joined Romaine as an Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Even the younger running backs made some big plays.

Hillsboro ran for over 450 yards as a team.

Hawks head coach Bill Sucharski said, from front to back, his team showed how far they’ve come.

Hillsboro wins its first season opener since 2018 and hosts Jackson in Week Two.

Northwest has a streak of 4 straight Week-One wins snapped as they will next host Mehlville.
