(HILLSBORO) The Hillsboro and DeSoto softball teams met in the Class 3 District 2 title game for the 2nd year in a row and again the Hawks are district champions behind a 6-0 complete game shutout by senior Emma Nichols.

After pitching a scoreless top of the 1st, Nichols woke up the Hawks with her bat.

Nichols continued pitching efficiently, retiring the final 16 batters, 7 by way of strikeout. In the bottom of the 4th inning and the Hawks up 4-0, senior Emily Mudd gave Nichols a little more breathing room with a big fly to center.

Hillsboro’s Emma Nichols says the moment of pitching in a 2nd district championship never got too big for her.

The district title game victory moves Hillsboro up to 19-9 this season and the loss for DeSoto ends their season at 16-12. Hillsboro advances to the Class 3 Sectionals to face the District 1 winner which will be decided on Saturday.
