Hillsboro Softball to Defend 4th Place Finish at State with New Crop of Players

(HILLSBORO) The Hillsboro softball Hawks are entering 2019 after having their best season as a program last year when they finished 4th at state in Class 3.

Emma Nichols, who is now at Mizzou, and Kelsey Boyd, who is now at Jefferson College, were both instrumental in the team’s success. But 2018 is behind the Hawks and 2019 is just ahead. Now, the new veteran Hawks and expected major contributors according to head coach Kevin Lucas, are 3rd-year catcher Julianna Johnson and outfielder Bailey Shuman.

With Emma Nichols and Emily Mudd both graduating, Coach Lucas has some new faces to throw in the circle this year.

There’s also a battle between Katelyn Canada and Nicole Evans for the starting 2nd baseman spot.

The Hawks had a lot of offensive power as well as power pitching the last couple of seasons, but Coach Lucas says that this year’s group will be taking on a completely different identity.

The Hillsboro softball Hawks begin the 2019 season on September 3rd against Parkway South and then Park Hill South at the Kirkwood Athletic Association facilities. The Hawks will have their first home game on September 9th versus St. Vincent.
