Hillsboro, St. Pius collide for Class 4 District 2 volleyball title on KJFF

(Hillsboro) The 2 volleyball champions of the JCAA will meet to decide who takes home a Class 4 District 2 title when the St. Pius Lancers battle the Hillsboro Hawks Wednesday on KJFF.

Top-seed Hillsboro improved to 15-6 with a semifinal win over DeSoto and has been paced by senior hitters Mackenzie Baker and Sophia Marchetti and junior middle blocker Maya Wright.

The Hawks have won an astounding 95 matches since Erin Boss took over as head coach, but they’re still searching for their district title since 1997.

Now, with a shot to win the hardware on their home court, Boss says this is the moment they’ve been building towards.

Meanwhile, winning district titles is a habit for St. Pius.

The second-seeded Lancers are 18-8-3 after beating North County Monday and are seeking a 11th straight district championship behind all-state junior hitter Kennedy Lane and senior setter Sarah Wells.

Pius defeated in Hillsboro in straight sets last week, but head coach Shannon Leftridge knows this will be a much different match.

The Lancers have won 9 of their last 11 meetings with the Hawks.

The winner this time faces the District 4 champion in the state sectionals Saturday afternoon.

Hillsboro battles St. Pius for the Class 4 District 2 championship Wednesday evening, with coverage starting at 5:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
