Hillsboro upends St. Pius’ perfect season on KJFF

The Hillsboro Hawks handed the St. Pius Lancers their first loss of the boys’ basketball season with a 43-42 victory Monday night on KJFF.

The game was a tight-knit affair, with the largest lead being 6 points.

Hillsboro held that lead into the fourth quarter, but St. Pius would not go down without a fight.

The Lancers found themselves back in front not long after the Patrick Flanagan triple, but one of the Hawks’ senior stars stepped up to make a huge play.

Whaley lead the Hawks in scoring and was the Applebee’s Player of the Game.

The game came down to the final seconds.

Hillsboro wins a third straight game to improve to 6-7.

But Hawks head coach Dan Johnson had nothing but respect for St. Pius afterwards.

While Hillsboro returns to action Tuesday against Potosi, St. Pius will look to bounce back from falling to 6-1 when they host Herculaneum on Friday.
