Hillsboro uses fourth-quarter surge to pull away from Windsor
February 7, 2020 10:18PM CST
The Hillsboro Hawks finished strong on the road and knocked off the Windsor Owls 66-55 Friday evening in Imperial as heard on AM 1400 KJFF.
Both teams were red-hot shooting the basketball early on.
The Owls led 21-18 at the end of the first quarter and had a 3-point lead late in the first half, but Hawks senior guard Mark Moore came up with a clutch bucket.
Both teams hit 8 three-pointers in the first half, and even when the scoring slowed in the second half, Hillsboro only led 51-50 at the end of the third quarter.
But with the game tied at 55, the Hawks reeled off an 11-0 run to finish off a win, thanks in large part to junior guard Logan Smith.
Smith’s 14 points were the only bench points for either team, as he earned Applebee’s Player of the Game and Hillsboro won its second conference game of the season.
Hawks head coach Dan Johnson pointed to a few key plays that helped his team get the win.
Hillsboro improves to 15-4 and is off until they play Seckman Thursday.
Windsor falls to 1-2 in JCAA Large-School Division play and 11-8 overall.
The Owls play Monday against St. Pius.
