Hillsboro Wrestling Champs are Athletes of the Week

(HILLSBORO)    The four individual wrestling state champions from Hillsboro High School are this week’s “Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week”.  Carter Wallace, Jackson Tucker, Sam Richardson and Griffin Ray were crowned state champs over the weekend in Columbia.
In the 106 pound weight class, Freshman Carter Wallace won by a major decision of Jackson Bassett of Whitfield by the score of 11-3. Wallace finished the season at 43 and 3. He said it was a thrill to win in his first time at the state level.

Sophomore Jackson Tucker completed the season at 43-1. In the 132 pound division, he won by major decision over Chad Benwell jr. of North Point 14 to 6. Jackson lost last year in his championship match and says he worked hard all year to get back to Columbia.

At 157, Junior Sam Richardson won by a fall over Riley Beckman of Bolivar. Sam Finished the year with a record of 37-4 and says the entire team this year worked hard.

Senior Griffin Ray won a state title in the 165 pound weight class on a fall over Tony Stewart from Carl Junction. Griffin completed his championship season with a record of 44-3. Ray says he found an opening and took advantage of it.

For being selected as Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete’s of the Week, Carter Wallace, Jackson Tucker, Sam Richardson and Griffin Ray will all receive a certificate, a T-shirt and a certificate for a free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
