(Hillsboro, Mo.) Hillsboro‘s Gavin Alexander wasn’t daunted by his first season of high school wrestling, and he has the hardware to prove it. The Hawk freshman won a state title in Class 3 at 106 pounds and is now a member of the Regional Radio Dream Team. Alexander says he’s honored to receive first-year varsity recognition.

Alexander didn’t just have to overcome inexperience. He broke his elbow this summer and says he had to work to get back into full wrestling shape.

But Alexander clearly bounced back, going 46-2 and winning a title. Now also a Dream Team member, Alexander says there’s plenty of folks to thank.

Alexander became the first Hillsboro wrestler to win a state championship since 2008.
