Hillsboro’s Brown balances multiple duties on the way to track Dream Team

(Hillsboro) Payton Brown proved to be the rare track & field athlete who didn’t have to specialize in either running or field events.

Instead, the Hillsboro Hawks sophomore starred on both ends on his way to the Regional Radio Dream Team.

Brown qualified for the Class 4 state championships in both the 300-meter hurdles and the javelin toss, finishing second in the state in the javelin.

And he appreciates how is multitasking is getting noticed.

Brown won conference and district championships in the javelin toss before finishing third at sectionals.

While there wasn’t a state medal for the hurdles, Brown did follow up his third-place finish at districts by getting second place at sectionals.

He says the hurdle races has actually been his more natural event and he’s only recently taken up throwing.

But Brown believes the best is yet to come.

Before his succes in track, Brown was previously all-conference in the MAFC Red Division for the Hillsboro football team.
