(Hillsboro) The Hillsboro Hawks boys soccer team followed up their sectional championship season from a year ago with a district runner-up season this year and saw a number of players take on bigger roles.

One of those players was junior striker Colton Leonard who led the team in scoring and was named to the Regional Radio Dream Team.

He says he appreciates the selection from area coaches.

Leonard has been a key player for the Hawks over the past few seasons but was called upon to be the team’s main striker this year and had his best season yet.

He finished with 15 goals and six assists for a total of 36 points.

Leonard explains how he prepares for games on and off the field.

The Hawks had one of their best seasons in program history in 2019 when they finished 19-6-1 and reached the Class 2 Quarterfinals.

Leonard played a significant role on that team last year as he finished tied for second on the team in goals with 10 and added four assists.

He says he learned a lot playing alongside that group.

This season Leonard earned 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-District honors.

He now has 27 goals and 11 assists in his career playing for Hillsboro boys soccer.
