Hillsboro’s Ray reaches wrestling Dream Team goal

(Hillsboro) Griffin Ray is one of many young wrestlers who have started their careers fast for the Hillsboro Hawks.

He can now also join the rank of Hawks to make the Regional Radio Dream Team.

Ray has raced out of the gates, earning a Class 3 state medal in each of his first two seasons, including a third-place finish this season at 152 pounds.

Ray says he’s proud to continue his growing legacy of success on the mat.

Ray is a 2-time district champion and went 47-5 in his sophomore season. But he says the hardest place to win might be in his own wrestling room, as he practices against all-state teammates like Dalton Litzsinger and Gavin Alexander.

And yet, because he did not walk away with a state championship, Ray wants it made clear: the best is yet to come.

Ray has already managed to win 93 matches in his first 2 varsity seasons and helped Hillsboro finish third in the state in Class 3 as a team.
