Hillsboro’s Romaine named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Hillsboro) Hillsboro Hawks junior Austin Romaine is the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

Romaine was a singular force of nature in the Hawks’ 13-7 win over the Festus Tigers Friday night.

Romaine rushed for a game-high 232 yards and scored the winning touchdown in the Class 4 District 1 semifinals.

But Romaine also dominated on defense, piling up 11 tackles, 4 sacks and an interception.

Hillsboro head coach Bill Sucharski says he’s rarely seen an athlete as good as Romaine.

But it’s not just Romaine’s physical gifts.

Sucharski says all his players are as smart as they are strong.

Romaine was named first-team all-conference in all three phase of the game this week and was also named the most valuable player and defensive player of the year in the MAFC Red Division.

As Athlete of the Week, he receives a T-shirt, a certificate and a coupon for a free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.

To hear a full interview with Austin Romaine, tune in to KJFF Sports Talk Wednesday afternoon starting at 4:15 on AM 1400.
