Hillsboro’s Wright races to boys’ track Dream Team Athlete of the Year

(Hillsboro) Sam Wright has a message for future Hillsboro Hawks athletes looking to take up track & field: work hard, and you can shoot for the stars.

He is living proof, as he grinded out a career that ended with being named the Regional Radio Dream Team Boys’ Track Athlete of the Year.

Wright won district championships in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, as well as the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, before adding state titles in the 200 and the 300 hurdles.

But this latest accolade is one he does not take lightly.

Wright was the JCAA boys’ track MVP after winning conference titles in all of his events.

He says he learned to become a star by watching and emulating the work ethic of the great ones that came before him.

Wright’s sister Maya made the girls’ track Dream Team this season as well.

He says track & field is truly a family affair.

Wright will continue his track career next season at Missouri S&T.
