Hit and run suspect arrested in Arnold

(Jefferson County) A man who allegedly was involved in an accident and then fled the scene on foot was apprehended in Arnold.

The accident happened on February 25th in the 4200 block of Jeffco Boulevard outside of Arnold.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell says the suspect was travelling northbound on Jeffco Boulevard when he collided with another vehicle that was awaiting traffic to make a left turn onto Miller East. As a result, it caused the victims vehicle to be pushed into oncoming traffic.

Once deputies arrived on scene they were able to determine the vehicle the suspect was driving was stolen from earlier that day in Piedmont.

The suspect, 36-year-old Clay Westmoreland of Piedmont was already on probation for Tampering and 2nd Degree Assault.

He is now being charged with 1st Degree Tampering, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Westmoreland is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $50-thousand dollars cash only bond.
