Horton Scores 1,000th Point As Central Gets By South Iron 58-41 Monday On Regional Radio

(PARK HILLS, Mo.) – The Central Rebels girls basketball team exacted revenge Monday night for a loss six days ago, as they defeated the South Iron Panthers at home by a final score of 58-41. It was a quick start for Central, as they raced to an 11-0 run out of the gates.

Sophia Horton, a junior and Dream Team Player of the Year a season ago, scored her 1,000th career point on the evening and led her team with 18 points.

The Rebels kept South Iron at arms length for the rest of the game, after the Panthers won this same matchup in the Central Christmas Tournament’s third place game, 51-50 last week.

Horton got plenty of help from senior Avery Norris, who had a great night.

Norris finished with 14 and was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

We asked head coach Josh Mapes of Central if this was a statement win.

It was freshman Madison Ayers of South Iron leading all scorers with 21 in the loss.

The Panthers are now 7-2 and play Bunker Tuesday as they return home.

On the side of Central, they are now 11-2 and travel to Cape Notre Dame on Thursday, who ended their season in sectionals last year.
