(Red Bud) Our friends across the Mississippi River in Illinois can now enjoy cannabis without the worry of getting arrested for it.

The Land of Lincoln became 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana.

The new state law, which went into effect New Year’s Day, also requires low-level marijuana convictions be expunged.

Governor J.B. Pritzker did just that this week, granting pardons to more than 11-thousand marijuana convictions.

Governor Pritzker says some of the money generated from taxing recreational marijuana in Illinois will be put to good use.

Governor Pritzker says his pardons will help people seeking jobs, financial aid for college and housing.

These pardons, he says, are meant to try to correct the injustice.

92 Illinois counties are represented among the 11,000 pardons.
