Iron County Election Contested & County Clerk Resigns

(Ironton) Iron County leaders hope some decisions will be made sooner rather than later concerning an appointment to a very critical county position and, in the courts after controversy has apparently arose after the Iron County Republican primary election for sheriff.

County Clerk Stephanie Lebron suddenly resigned, not long after the August primary, where that office is in charge of counting all election results.

We got a chance to speak to Iron County Presiding Commissioner Jim Scaggs about it.

He tells us what information he’s been given on those two subjects.

Scaggs is hopeful the governor will not waste anytime making an appointment for the Iron County clerk’s position, considering another election is a little more than two months away.

Taylor Wakefield is that lone person who is currently working in the Iron County clerk’s office.

As far as how that Republican primary election went for sheriff, Jeff Burkett was the winner with 516 votes.

Current Sheriff Roger Medley received 73 votes less than Burkett with 443 and Ben Starnes finished third in the race with 435 votes.
