Iron County Sheriff & 2 Former Deputies Facing Criminal Charges Have Months to Prepare for Next Court Day

(Potosi) The Iron County sheriff and his two deputies who are facing criminal charges out of Washington County will all be in court during their next scheduled appearance.

However, it will be a while.

All three will have their preliminary hearings on October 4th at the courthouse in Potosi.

Sheriff Jeff Burkett faces four felonies and four misdemeanors.

Former Iron County deputy Chase Bresnahan faces four felonies and three misdemeanors while former deputy Matthew Cozad has been charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors.

Burkett, Bresnahan and Cozad were all arrested in mid-March of this year by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with Donald “Rick” Gaston, a citizen of Washington County who also faces similar charges.

The arrests stem from an alleged scheme back in February of this year where Sheriff Burkett and the two deputies allegedly attempted to help Gaston kidnap his daughter from the mother of his child.

Judge Patrick King is overseeing the cases against the three.
