(Arnold) The Fox Warriors football program has seen a turnaround over the course of the last few years, and another player that helped engineer that turnaround is going to play football at the collegiate level.

Fox senior Max Klug made his announcement late last week that he will join teammate and fellow senior, Tony Pisoni, on the McKendree University football team. The two plan to room together next year. Klug played defensive line for the Warriors during his career and led the team with six sacks this past season. He also registered 67 tackles and had a fumble recovery.

McKendree wasn’t at the top of his list when he started his recruitment, but that quickly changed…

Despite his talents on the football field, the offer to play at McKendree represents something more to Klug…

Klug is a standout athlete and his raw athleticism allowed him to make a smooth transition on the football field, even though he didn’t start playing football until his sophomore season. It turned out to be a good decision as it has helped him land at a university, while being able to look back on the big impact he made on the Fox program. He recorded nine total sacks during his career at Fox over two seasons at the varsity level.

A lot of playing football is outworking and outlasting your opponent, and Klug believes his high motor makes him effective on the D-line. He plans to get bigger and improve his strength this off-season…

Klug is also one of the younger kids in his class, and that allows him to have an even higher level of potential to grow and develop as a football player and person…

Klug said that McKendree has told him that he will have the opportunity to play right away by competing in camp, but he would have no problem sitting out this year to get stronger…

Part of becoming a college athlete and student is the development of not only your skills on the field, but your abilites to grow as a person as well. College represents the first time a young man or woman becomes relatively independent while still remaining dependent, giving them a chance to grow.

Tinker thinks Klug will have no problem with this transition…

If you talk with those around him, Klug is already a mature young man with a great head on his shoulders despite being one of the younger students in his graduating class. The humble young man had a few people to thank along the way as he closes out one chapter, and prepares for the next…

Klug plans to study either nursing or computer science at McKendree.
