JCHD gives guidance for schools starting up

(Hillsboro) With the Delta variant running rapidly throughout the population, and the large increase in Covid-19 cases in the county, the Jefferson County Health Department has set some guidelines along with area schools superintendents as the school year is about to kick off. JCHD Director Kelley Vollmar says she met with the schools this week to make some final preparations.

Vollmar says while some districts are much larger than others, the best thing students can do is to get the vaccine if they meet the proper age requirements.

Vollmar is well aware that there are some students who can’t or won’t get the vaccine.

St. Pius X High school will start the new school year next week, while all others begin the week of August 23rd.

Yesterday (Tuesday), the JCHD reported 71 new cases of Covid-19 in the county, bringing the total number of positive cases to 26,168 in the county since March of last year. The current active cases is 702, and now there have been 264 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
