JCSO DWI sobriety testing drew a lot of attention this week

(Hillsboro) Members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office DWI Enforcement unit held sobriety field testing this week. The Sheriff’s Office had been bringing in members of the public to drink alcohol for a few hours and then get tested as they would if they were pulled over while driving while intoxicated. Sheriff Dave Marshak says this type of testing with a “wet lab” is not new.

Sheriff Marshak says this type of standardized testing will teach their deputies what to watch out for while conducting sobriety testing on the roads.

All of those that take part in the testing are provided safe transportation to and from the sheriff’s office and are not allowed to drive themselves. There has been a steady increase in DWI arrests by the county DWI unit. In 2020 there were 358 arrests, 402 arrests in 2021, and 555 DWI arrests in 2022.
