JeffCo’s Chatman on soccer adjusting to life in COVID-19 pandemic

(Hillsboro) Most colleges will not have athletics when the fall semester begins due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jefferson College in Hillsboro will be no different.

Women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer, typically played in the fall, have been moved to the spring by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Brocklon Chatman is the head coach for both Viking soccer teams.

He says he supports the NJCAA’s decision, and he is ready to embrace the challenge of an adjusted schedule.

Chatman says the bright side to delaying games is that his team gets back the on-campus, offseason workouts that were taken away when sports were put on hold in the spring.

There has been a significant international flavor to the men’s team at JeffCo the last few years.

But most of the Vikings’ international players are familiar faces.

Chatman says they’ve also been able to get past recruiting issues by bringing in more local talent.

The Viking men won 13 games in 2019.

JeffCo also had 3 victories for the women.
