(FESTUS) The Arcadia Valley baseball team’s valiant effort fell just a bit short in a 10-8 district loss to the Jefferson Blue Jays on Thursday on KREI and KJFF. A defensive gem by Jefferson center fielder Andrew Graves helped the Jays maintain a 2-1 lead early in the ballgame.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Jefferson stretched its lead to 6-1. Then Arcadia Valley responded with 4 runs in the top of the 4th to keep it close at 6-5. Later on in the bottom half of the inning, the Blue Jays got a big hit from catcher Levi Roth.

That hit wound up being the eventual game-winner after Jackson Lamb for Arcadia Valley came up with a pinch-hit double in the top of the 6th.

An insurance run for the Blue Jays just a bit later and a game-ending short-to-first unassisted double play and Jefferson wrapped up its 2nd win of the season. AV head coach John Inman applauded the effort of his Tigers but wished things had gone a bit differently.

Jefferson head coach Robert Kuehnle had some nice things to say about Levi Roth coming up in the clutch in the 4th.

The 10-8 win for Jefferson puts its record at 2-2 with a game at home on Thursday against Saxony Lutheran. Arcadia Valley drops to 3-1 and will face the Central Rebels on the road on Thursday.
