Jefferson captures 1st baseball district championship on KJFF

(Festus) For the first time in program history, the Jefferson Blue Jays are a baseball district champion.

Jefferson beat crosstown rivals St. Pius 7-3 Wednesday night in the Class 3 District 4 title game on KJFF.

It was a back-and-forth game early, with Jefferson taking its first lead one inning after St. Pius scored twice in the second.

The Lancers would get the game back even in the fifth thanks to senior Zander Parson.

But the Blue Jays would not be denied, responding again when Colton Richardson came up with the Serenity Hospice Care Play of the Game.

That would be all senior pitcher Colby Ott needed on the mound, and the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game clinched the title for the Jays.

Ott got the win on the mound, allowing just one run on a hit and 2 walks while striking out seven in 3 innings.

R-7 head coach Robert Kuehnle says all the glory goes to his players.

St. Pius has the season end with a record of 10-12.

Jefferson improves to 15-8 and will play in the Class 3 state sectionals Tuesday.
