Jefferson, Clearwater looks for trip to volleyball Final 4 on J98

(Piedmont) The Jefferson Blue Jays are in the middle of the best volleyball season in school history.

Now they can add a trip to the state Final 4.

Jefferson visits the Clearwater Tigers in the Class 2 state quarterfinals Saturday on J98.

The Blue Jays defeated Saxony Lutheran in sectionals Thursday to improve to 31-6-1 this season.

Jefferson head coach Tara Fish says the next win would be one to remember.

The Blue Jays are lead by an trio of all-state junior hitters in Ava Roth, Kirstyn Loyd and Emma Breier.

But, while Clearwater may be below .500 this season, the Tigers have won six of their last 10.

That’s largely thanks to star senior hitter Jaylin Street and a high percentage of serves for aces.

Fish says Jefferson is preparing to defend anything and everything.

Jefferson has played in the state quarterfinals once in 2014 and lost.

The Blue Jays try to knock off Clearwater Saturday and reach the Class 2 semifinals.

Coverage starts following the Farmington-Nernix Hall game around 2:30 on 98.5 FM.
