Jefferson, Clearwater, St. Pius Advance In Class 3 District 3 Tournament

(Arcadia Valley) Each game of the Class 3 District 3 boys quarterfinals came down to the fourth quarter but Jefferson R7, Clearwater and St. Pius punched their tickets to the semifinals.

In the first game, two seed Jefferson held off a late rally by seven seed Grandview to win 65-45. Jefferson closed the first quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 11-9 and then Nate Breeze scored 17 points in the second quarter to keep his team ahead…

Jefferson led 36-23 at the half and 45-32 at the end of the third quarter. The lead got to 15 points until Grandview went on a 9-0 run…

It never got closer than six points as Jefferson’s Kaleb Weiler scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter. Coach Sean Breeze gave lots of credit to Grandview…

Nate Breeze ended up with 24 points for the 13-11 Blue Jays. Levi Lalonde paced Grandview with 13 points while Caleb Peterson knocked down four three pointers. Grandview ends their season with a record of 8-19.


In the second game of the day, six seed Clearwater maintained a steady offensive attack throughout the game to pull off an upset win over three seed Kingston, 73-64. The Tigers were led by guard Charles Robbins, who scored 31 points.

After the game, Clearwater head coach Zac Moore made sure to note that the win was a full team effort.

Kingston head coach Paul Hamilton was disappointed with the end result, but expressed a positive outlook of the season as a whole.

Clearwater improves to 12-14 and will face two seed Jefferson in the tournament semifinals. Kingston concludes their season with a 15-11 record.


Five seed Arcadia Valley led for much of the final game of the night, but four seed St. Pius came back to win 60-56. St. Pius took an early 3-2 lead. It didn’t last long because of Arcadia Valley’s Ralph Salinas…

Salinas finished the game with 15 points. Dabrien Moss scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half for St. Pius, but Arcadia Valley led 22-14 after one quarter and 33-28 at the break. The Lancers managed to tie the game a couple of times in the third quarter. Jonas Andrews scored 9 of his 17 points during that time, but the Tigers led 44-43 going into the fourth. St. Pius finally broke through, as John Whitman scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Arcadia Valley cut the deficit to one point multiple times, but St. Pius held on, and coach Chris Miller had much praise for the Tigers…

St. Pius are now 14-12 and will face the one seed West County Bulldogs Wednesday at 5:30. Colin Whited netted 18 points for Arcadia Valley. The Tigers’ season ends with a record of 6-14.
