Jefferson County Authorities Investigating Data Breach at Hillsboro School District

(Hillsboro) Authorities in Jefferson County are working on determining the full extent of a computer data breach at the Hillsboro School District.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Colonel Tim Whitney says this is a complex investigation that involves a lot of computer forensics.

Whitney mentions this isn’t an investigation that’s going to be solved overnight.

According to Hillsboro School District Superintendent Dr. Jon Isaacson, the Google program which the district used would automatically link to employees’ personal photos if they’d backed up their pictures using Google Photos.

Dr. Isaacson adds this is an unfortunate incident for teachers in the school district.

The person believed to have been responsible for the data breach has been fired from the school district.

While official charges have not been filed at this point, the responsible party could wind up facing a charge of felony invasion of privacy.
