Jefferson County Blazers start SLABA play

Despite the restrictions of the coronavirus, traveling baseball teams are starting to get into their normal schedules.

The Jefferson County Blazers’ 18-and-under team begins league play Monday night in the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association.

The Blazers have 3 teams competing in levels of SLABA, and the 18u team has already played 9 games this summer.

Head coach Aaron Kutilek says it hasn’t all been easy, but’s it’s great to give players who have had a long layoff a chance to get better.

Kutilek also says he likes giving his players a chance to show college scouts what they can do.

Once upon a time, the Blazers were an American Legion team.

But even before schedules changed, Kutilek says he’d been working to get games played with area Legion teams like Festus.

The Jefferson County Blazers will play Rock Memorial on June 24th and are scheduled to take on the Festus Diamond Club on July 21st.

The Blazers faced the St. Charles Capitals Monday night and will return to the diamond Thursday night.
