(Jefferson County) With fall already upon us and winter to follow, health officials are gearing up for what should be a busy flu season amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) will soon be offering flu vaccines to the public.

Sarah Warncke is the Nursing Supervisor for the JCHD. She says flu vaccines should be available by next week.

In addition Warncke says they are working on vote and vaccinate clinics at their High Ridge office and the Arnold Rec Center.

Sara Wilton is a Epidemiologist for the JCHD. She mentions Jefferson County already has reported cases of the flu this year.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) an estimated 39 million to 56 million reported flu illnesses with 24,000 to 62,000 deaths in the U.S. during the 2019-2020 season.

The 2020-2021 flu season ends in mid May.
