Jefferson County officials on James Hardie preparation work

(Hillsboro, Crystal City) There are a lot of things happening behind the scenes when it comes to building the James Hardie manufacturing plant in Crystal City. The official announcement of Project Redbird was made in November of last year, and the plant will be coming to the area in and around the Festus Memorial Airport. David Courtway of the Director of Administration for Jefferson County. He says getting the entrances set up is near the top of the list of things to prepare for.

Courtway says they wanted to make the entrance from Airport Road to be something simple for a few reasons.

The main entrance for business and truck traffic will be along VFW Drive. Courtway says there are many groups involved when it comes to the roadways from MODOT, to the Festus Special Road District, Jefferson County, as well as Crystal City.

Ground is expected to be broken on the James Hardie manufacturing plant soon, with a target date of opening in 2025.
