Jefferson County recount changes nothing in April election

(Hillsboro) After a tie in one School Board race and a close vote in another, nothing has changed after the Jefferson County Elections Authority conducted a recount. Four people ran for two positions on the Dunklin School board with Marissa Newman winning with 504 votes, but there was a tie for the other position with John A. Maddox IV and Jarred Engelbach both receiving 449 votes. Jefferson County Elections Clerk Ken Waller says the recount resulted in the same outcome.

The Dunklin R-5 School District will make a decision on the next course of action soon.

There was a close race in the Hillsboro R-3 School board race as five people ran for two spots. Jim Kruse received the most votes with 1,217, followed by Jon Schuessler with 1,046, and Jacklyn Brown with 1,045. Waller says after the recount, Schuessler actually received a few more votes.

The April election results were certified as official on Friday. There was a 17.8 percent voter turnout on Tuesday.
