(Hillsboro) The number of positive cases of Covid-19 continues to rise in Jefferson County. In the past two weeks, there are over two-hundred new cases reported by the Jefferson County Health Department. JCHD Director Kelly Vollmar says there has been a large increase in cases for younger residents.

Vollmar believes the increase is largely due to the 4th of July holiday with friends and family gatherings.

The discussion of mandating the wearing of masks has been tossed around over the past several days, and unfortunately many have made threats to the Health Department and to Vollmar herself if that were to happen. Vollmar understands the public’s frustration.

As far as the subject of masks becoming mandatory, Vollmar says that decision will be made by the Health Department Board, and there is a process of holding a meeting to discuss it.

As of now, there is NOT a Jefferson County mandate for the wearing of masks in public.
