Jefferson Football Takes on Duchesne in the Class 2 Quarterfinals on KJFF

(St. Charles) The Jefferson Blue Jays travel to St. Charles to take on the Duchesne Pioneers tonight in the Class 2 State Quarterfinals.

Last week the Blue Jays handled the New Madrid County Central Eagles to win the district championship for the first time in school history.

This week they will face a 9-1 Pioneers team that avenged their only loss of the season to claim the District 2 championship.

Jefferson head coach Alex Rouggly says at this point in the season, wins and losses come down to the details.

Duchesne’s defense has been stout all year, allowing just 14 points per game.

Head coach Charlie Elmendorf has confidence in his defense but knows the Blue Jays skills positions players can strike quickly.

The Pioneers have good skill players of their own, especially 6-foot-2 225 pound running back Antwon Hayden.

Rouggly knows the size of the Pioneer team stands out, but he says his team has faced similar backs all season long.

Duchesne’s freshman quarterback Taron Peete throws the ball well and Elmendorf expressed the importance of being able to block up front and throw the ball to keep the Blue Jays honest on defense.

Coverage of Jefferson at Duchesne begins at 6 with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show with kickoff at 7 on AM 1400, KJFF.
