Jefferson girls’ hoops hoping experience ends in excellence

(Festus) The Jefferson Blue Jays will look very familiar to their girls’ basketball fans this year, save for one area.

Zac McVey takes over as head coach after his time at North County.

But the foundation is strong, with leading scorer Laney Smith back after scoring almost 13 points a game among the 7 returning varsity players.

McVey says there’s plenty he’s excited to work with.

Jefferson went 13-13 last season but struggled inside the JCAA Small-School Division and suffered another early exit in the Class 3 District 3 tournament.

McVey says getting better in those areas is one of his primary concerns.

After dropping their opener to St. Paul in the Valley of Caledonia tournament, Jefferson beat Bismarck for its first win of the new season.
