The Class 2, District 1 playoffs continue Friday with a semifinal matchup between the Caruthersville Tigers and the hosting Jefferson Blue Jays.

Led by head coach Jimmy Jackson, Caruthersville enters the contest with an 8-2 record after a first round victory over Central (New Madrid County) by a final score of 58-20 last week.

Caruthersville has only lost to some of its area’s most elite teams, including a 9-1 Kennett and a 10-0 Hayti squad that beat Crystal City 86-0 a week ago.

In addition, the Tigers beat the obviously highly regarded Valle Catholic earlier on in the season.

On the side of Jefferson, they are 9-1 and led by fourth year man Alex Rouggly. Their only loss of the season was to the aforementioned Valle Cathoic Warriors at home in week six.

Rouggly knows how much of a challenge the Tigers will present, but believes his guys are preparing the right way.

Caruthersville will have the difficult task of slowing down Jefferson’s star senior running back in Andrew Graves.

Jackson thinks their experience against Hayti’s running back Ivory Winters, a three star Indiana commit, will assist them in this contest.

Speaking of Graves, the regular season did not see him get his usual dose of carries.

This was by design as Rouggly wanted to ensure he was healthy heading into the playoffs. The head coach says Graves will get a large workload on Friday.

The winner of Friday’s affair will move on to the district finals to face the winner of Charleston and St. Pius for a chance to advance to state.
