Jefferson R-7 School District to lose tax dollars with the closing of Ameren’s Rush Island power plant

(Festus) After hearing news of Ameren Missouri’ plans to close its Rush Island coal power plant down earlier than expected, the Jefferson R-7 School District is trying to figure out the lose in tax dollar revenue to the district.

Superintendent Clint Johnston is hopeful that the existing site will be bought and operated by another business.

Johnston mentions there is a lot of unknowns in regards to the impact this will have on the district.

The Rush Island Energy Center located in southeast Jefferson County is now scheduled to close sometime in 2024 if not 2025.

That’s 15 years earlier than previous planned by Ameren.
