Jefferson softball seeks return to championship form

(Festus) The Jefferson Blue Jays will be looking to return to glory on the softball diamond.

A program that finished third in the state in 2016 reached a district championship game again last season, but their chief concern to start 2021 is finding ways to get even better.

Blue Jays head coach Robert Kuehnle says that can come down some unique avenues, like turning to some first-time talent on the pitching staff.

A big hole to fill in the lineup is all-state catcher Catryn Cattoor and her whopping .600 batting average.

But slugging senior Cami Menke will be quite a force to be reckoned with.

After hitting over .400 and blasting 5 home runs last season, Kuehnle says Menke is only getting better.

Kuehnle has now guided both the baseball and softball programs to the state Final Four.

What he’s learned along the way that he preaches to this particular team is to take time and sweat the small stuff.

Jefferson opens up the 2021 fall softball season August 30th at Fredericktown.
