Jefferson, St. Pius duel for conference baseball supremacy on KJFF

(Festus) Two fierce crosstown rivals meet up with a baseball conference title likely at stake when the Jefferson Blue Jays take on the St. Pius Lancers Thursday on KJFF.

Jefferson is one of the hottest teams in the area.

Behind senior pitchers Dylan Schnitzler and Daylen Whitener, the Blue Jays have won eight of their last 10 to improve to 10-7 and start conference play at 3-0.

R-7 head coach Robert Kuehnle says what they’ve done to turn their season around is what will be needed to stymie St. Pius.

St. Pius has had its ups and downs, with just an 8-7 overall record.

But the Lancers have rode the strength of their ace pitchers, junior Tate Ramey and freshman Zander Street, to an unbeaten league record.

With a chance to win the JCAA Small-School Division championship with a victory Thursday, head coach Dan Oliver says he hopes his team meets the moment and the challenge of facing Jefferson.

The Lancers and Blue Jays have split the last 4 meetings.

Jefferson and St. Pius meet again with high stakes Thursday afternoon.

Pregame coverage starts at 3:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
