Jefferson Visits St. Pius In Battle For The Top Of I-55 Conference

(Festus) Another I-55 conference matchup is tomorrow in Jefferson County as the Jefferson Bluejays travel down Great River Road to take on the St. Pius Lancers on AM 1400 KJFF. The Lancers are 2-1 coming off a victory against the Grandview Eagles which saw over 200-yards in combined penalties. Coach Dan Oliver of the Lancers says that cleaning up the penalties was a large point of emphasis this week in practice.

The Jefferson Bluejays enter this ballgame at 3-0 and are the 6th ranked team in Class 2. Jefferson comes in with a load of playmakers, with 5 players over 100 total yards through three weeks, and averages 46 points a game as a team. Bluejays head coach Alex Rouggly credits his team’s depth and being able to lean on his guys for their early-season success.

Coach Oliver says that they need to limit the early big plays from this Bluejays offense tomorrow.

Rouggly adds that they are going to have their hands full with Dream Team senior running back Nate Ruble of the Lancers.

Last season the Bluejays bested the Lancers 34-0 and have won 6 out of the past 9, but this game has more than historic implications. The winners of this matchup will be in sole possession of first place in the I-55 Conference. The St. Pius Lancers host the Jefferson Bluejays tomorrow on AM 1400 KJFF. Kickoff is at 7 with the Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show at 6.
