John Barnett Tabbed As Next West County High School Girls Basketball Head Coach

(Frankclay) John Barnett has been hired to be the new West County High School girls basketball head coach.

A graduate of West County High School in 2005, Barnett had been coaching at the middle school level in the West County School District for over 15 years, mostly with the boys teams. He coached the middle school girls last season.

Barnett is excited for this new chapter.

Bobby Simily leaves his position as the coach of the girls team but he will remain the Athletic Director at West County. In five years under Simily, West County had a record of 109-33. The Lady Bulldogs had back-to-back fourth place finishes in Class 3 and won three straight district titles. Five seniors graduated from last year’s team.

Barnett held workouts with the girls last month and he feels like this team can reload.

Barnett tells us what he wants the identity of his team to be.

Barnett is a former Regional Radio Dream Team Basketball Player of the Year. He won the award in 2005 under then-head coach Chad Mills. He tells us what he loved about being a student-athlete at West County.

Barnett had two people to thank for always supporting him.

Barnett says he has been doing good since that life-changing moment.

West County went 24-7 last season.
