Johnson Selected as New Festus Boys Basketball Coach

(FESTUS)   Dan Johnson, who was the head basketball coach this past season at North County High school will be the new head boys basketball coach at Festus. According to Festus Superintendent Dr. Nikki Ruess, Johnson’s hiring was finalized Tuesday night during the Festus R-6 Board of Education meeting.

Johnson says the decision to pursue the Festus job was family driven. He and his family live within 10 minutes of Festus High School while his wife is a teacher in the Jefferson R-7 School District and their son attends fourth grade in that district.
According to Johnson, he has a fast paced coaching style.

According to Johnson, he has a couple of rules for his team.

During our conversation with Coach Johnson, he says he is appreciate of the opportunity to work and coach at North County.

Johnson comes to Festus having coached at Crystal City, Hillsboro and North County. He has a career record of 302-166 in 18 seasons on the bench. Johnson succeeds Jason Therrell who is moving to the role of Athletics/Activities Director beginning July 1, 2023. Therrell coached for 18 seasons, the last seven as the Tigers’ head basketball coach. He has a record of 118-66.
