La Niña Weather Pattern May Lead to Stormy Spring

(Missouri) We are in the last official week of the winter season but instead of dealing with snow or ice, showers and even thunderstorms are in the forecast this week.

On a global scale we are in a La Niña weather pattern, which means a cooling of surface ocean waters across the Pacific.

Alex Elmore is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis. He explains what that means for us locally.

With the potential to have more of a stormy weather pattern this spring, the flooding risk is likely to increase.

Showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast on Wednesday. The NWS is reporting some of those storms could be strong to severe.
