Lead Mine Tours to Highlight Old Miners Day Saturday in Viburnum

(Viburnum) The event to celebrate southeast Missouri’s lead mining heritage is going to be one big day of fun this weekend.

Viburnum’s 36th Old Miners Day takes place Saturday.

One of the featured events is the free mine tours that run from 9 until 4.

You will sign up in the shopping center breezeway, get a tour time, and then you will take a bus to one of the Doe Run Company’s working mines.

Steve Setzer of Dillard works for Doe Run.

He says when your bus arrives at the mine, you will take the mine shaft elevator about a thousand feet below the surface.

Saturday’s Old Miners Day in Viburnum will also have vendor and food booths, a children’s parade, the grand parade, live musical entertainment throughout the day, rides, bounce houses, a car show and more.

Old Miners Day will finish with the Tiny Tot, Junior Miss and Miss Viburnum Pageant from 6 until 8 Saturday evening at the Elmer P. Beard Gymnasium.
