Lesterville’s Mathes Comments on Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week Selection

(Lesterville) The buckets came in bunches for Lesterville Bearcats boys hoops standout Nolan Mathes last week and as a result, he was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

He averaged 28 points per game across the team’s first four games of the season.

Mathes scored 21 against Meadow Heights, 29 against Fredericktown, 36 against Bunker, and 26 against Ellington.

He credits the hot start to a terrific offseason.

Like many great scorers, Mathes has a plethora of moves in his arsenal that he has continued to hone as he has taken on a bigger scoring role this year.

He breaks down his approach on the offensive side.

Mathes is the lone returning starter from last year’s 21-8 district runner-up team for the Bearcats.

Among those graduates was Nolan’s brother, Vince Mathes, who was one of the team’s top players over the past few seasons.

Nolan says that even though he is no longer on the team, his brother is still his biggest supporter and motivator.

As Athlete of the Week, Mathes received a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
