Lesterville’s Mathes Goes for 28 a Game in First Week, Named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Lesterville) While some players require a few games to shake off the offseason rust, Lesterville’s Nolan Mathes started the season by torching the net throughout the team’s first week of the season and thus has been named our Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

Mathes averaged 28 points per game across four games.

He scored 21 against Meadow Heights, 29 against Fredericktown, 36 against Bunker, and 26 against Ellington.

Lesterville head coach Anthony Caruso says Mathes had a ton of motivation coming into the season.

Mathes is the lone returning starter from last year’s 21-8 district runner-up team for the Bearcats.

The four starters they graduated combined for an average of 55.5 points per game, so there was an expectation for a potentially slow start for Lesterville and it has come to fruition with the team starting 1-3.

However, Mathes’ performance shows they have the playmaker, and when the cavalry arrives, Lesterville will be in good shape.

Caruso says it is not just the production but also the leadership that makes Mathes so valuable to the team.

As Athlete of the Week, Mathes will receive a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
