Missouri lawmakers are looking new ways to fund state highways, but that likely won’t include toll booths.

Republican state Senator Doug Libla of Poplar Bluff is chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and says he strongly opposes toll roads.

Libla says one major highway in the state is already ineligible for toll funding.

Libla recommends raising Missouri’s gas tax from 17 to 19 cents and has already filed legislation to do so.
While Missouri has the nation’s seventh-largest highway system, the state ranks just 49th in funding.
