Local firefighter and paramedic passes away in traffic crash

(DeSoto) A part-time Jefferson County firefighter and paramedic passed away in a traffic accident on Interstate 44 near Cuba on Friday night. 48-year-old Tom Seegers worked as a firefighter with the DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District and as a part-time paramedic with Valle Ambulance District. He was a full-time paramedic with Abbot Ambulance in St. Louis. DeSoto Rural Fire Deputy Chief John Scullin says they received the news on Friday night.

Scullin says Seegers also had a military background.

Scullin says it’s a terrible loss in the first-responders community.

Many first responders agencies have reached out to DeSoto Rural Fire, as well as to both Valle and Abbot Ambulance to help at this difficult time. The funeral services for Tom Seegers were pending as of Monday morning.
