Local law enforcement on back to school safety

(Jefferson County) Most to if not all Jefferson County public school districts will be returning back to class this week for the opening of the 2022-23 school year.

Crystal City Police Captain Mike Pruneau says officers will be out watching new drivers and making sure they are obeying traffic laws.

Pevely Police Chief Mark Glenn adds motorists can expect an increase in traffic with the start of the new school year.

In 2021, one person was killed and 217 injured in traffic crashes involving a school bus.

In Missouri last year, 794 traffic crashes involved school buses.
