Local Numbers from Late Youth Deer Hunt

(Farmington) Young hunters ages 6 to 15 harvested 3,574 deer during Missouri’s late youth hunt which took place for three days over the weekend.

1,697 were antlered bucks, 361 were button bucks and 1,516 were does.

The top county was Texas with 77 deer harvested.

Locally, Jefferson led the way with 53 deer harvested, Reynolds County had 47, Dent 46, Washington and Wayne Counties had 44 deer apiece, St. Francois 39, Crawford County and Perry County young hunters harvested 33 deer each, Ste. Gen County had 29, Madison 26, Bollinger 25 and Iron County youngsters checked in 16 deer.

Last year’s harvest total for the late youth portion was much higher with 2,870 deer.

Archery deer hunting continues through January 15th.

The late antlerless portion of firearms deer season starts Saturday and runs through December 10th in open counties and the alternative methods hunt will occur December 23rd through January 2nd.
