(Ste. Genevieve) The Valle Catholic cross country teams could be in-store for a lot of success this fall.

The boys finished in 4th place as a team in the Class One meet last season and return a bulk of those runners. Peter Roth is back for his senior year after leading the Warriors with a 5th place individual finish at state.

Coach Samer Zoughaib has high hopes for Roth.

Roth is one of five seniors on the team. Zoughaib tells us about the other senior leaders.

The boys have 15 runners on the team. Sophomore Thomas Varga is back after finishing 104th at state and juniors Dominic Griffard and Garrett Short placed 136th and 138th, respectively.

The girls team came in 5th place in Class Two last fall and return one of the top runners in the state. Sophomore Madelyn Griffard placed 22nd in 20 minutes and 57 seconds.

Just five girls make up this fall’s Warrior squad after graduating three seniors. Natalie Kist and Sophie Varga will have big roles on the team.

Zoughaib doesn’t have any assistant coaches helping him out. That allows him to have a closer relationship with his runners and the that translates to positive results in the season.

Zoughaib is looking forward to the Jackson Invitational later this month.

The Jackson Invitational kicks off the season on Saturday, August 27th.
